I had some handspun sock yarn from a fabulous batt from Abby’s Yarns called “Is that
ketchup” and I was looking for the perfect lace pattern for the red and green with a little
lavender of the yarn. I found the Strawberry Pattern from page 282 of Barbara G.
Walker’s A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns and felt it would be perfect for this
project. The Colors of the yarn remind me of green and ripe strawberries on the vine
and the Knit 3 Purl 3 ribbing in the cuff flows perfectly into the lace of the sock. Plus
on bigger needles than I normally use, these knit up rather quickly.
Strawberry Socks Pattern
By Glenna Dyane Chumbley
On US 4 (3.5mm) double pointed
needles, cast on 48 stitches. Join,
being careful not to twist.
Work Knit 3 Purl 3 ribbing for 12
rounds or until desired cuff length is
reached.
Pattern is a multiple of 12 stitches for 10 rounds. This pattern does not translate exactly
to being worked in rounds, so after the first round, the first stitch of Rounds 1-5 in the
cuff needs to be slipped. Also, if you divide evenly across four needles, the sl1 k2tog
psso decrease will need to be juggled across needles in Rounds 1-5 because the second
stitch of the k2tog will be on the next needle.
First Repeat of Pattern

Work for a total of 4 Repeats of the pattern or until cuff is desired length, ending on
Round 10.
Heel Flap is worked over the first 23 stitches of the next round. If you have divided
the stitches evenly over four needles, you will want to slip the last stitch from the
second needle onto the third needle. You may also want to slip the first 23 stitches of
the next round onto one needle

Lace Pattern for Top of Sock
For the rest of the sock until you reach the toe, the lace pattern is worked across the 25
stitches that make up the top of the sock and the stitches that make up the bottom of
the sock are knit plain. You no longer slip the first stitch of any round and the first and
last stitches on Rounds 1-5 of the pattern are now single decreases. The lace pattern to
be knit at the appropriate time is as follows:
